Visual Focus for Virtual Teams
I had a great chat with Nancy Settle-Murphy this afternoon about Web 2.0 tools in preparation for an article for her eZine, Communique. I’ve known Nancy for many years; she is an experienced facilitator specializing (now) in helping companies work with virtual teams. (We did a series together about a year ago on applying network concepts to working in virtual teams. Our conversations are always rich and stimulating. She really helped me to think about Web 2.0 (or Enterprise 2.0) can create an enabling context for collaboration. I think it will be a good article.
I was reminded to take another look at her latest ‘zine, co-authored with Penny Pullan, Worth a Thousand Words: Connecting Virtual Teams Through Imagery and Metaphor. It provides a good list of simple techniques to provide a visual focus for virtual teams who “meet” on the phone. I’ve used some of these techniques before, but as this area is not my forte, I wanted to pass these along (and also to introduce folks to Nancy).
